If i miss a class, can i make it up?

The teacher will do so where possible, but there is no obligation to do so. It will only be possible if another student is absent. This is one of the main reasons why we ask you to inform your teacher of your absence as soon as possible. Most teachers only come on one day and the timetables are quite strict.

I am absent, how do i let my teacher know?

The teacher’s telephone number is on the document you receive to confirm your registration. Please feel free to ask them for their email address if you think it would be useful.

How many lessons are there in a year?

A year consists of 25 individual 30-minute lessons or 25 one-hour group lessons (djembe: 1½ hours).

If the teacher is absent, will the lesson be made up?

Yes, the lesson will be made up later in the year.

Are there any discounts available?

From the third course onwards for members of the same family, a 10% discount is applied to the total registration fee. Residents of kraainem are also eligible for a discount. You can find full details under the ‘prices’ section.

Are music theory classes compulsory?

No, they are not compulsory, but they are strongly recommended. These classes are open to children aged 8 and over. They will only take place if at least three pupils enrol by 15 June.

Is there an end-of-year exam?

No, there is no end-of-year exam. However, auditions – which are recommended for those under 18 – are held. Each student performs a piece in front of an audience.

Can i attend a trial lesson?

Trial lessons at the start of the academic year are not permitted, as they may prevent another student from securing a place during the allocated time slot. However, if a place becomes available during the academic year, a trial lesson is possible subject to payment for that lesson.

Can i stop midway through the year?

Yes, but you will not be refunded unless another student can take over your lesson slot. However, we are always willing to take exceptional circumstances into account.

How do i register?

Registration is available exclusively via the website, under the ‘Registration’ section. Registration opens on 1 May. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to current students until 1 June. You will receive confirmation by post between 15 and 30 June.

Can i join mid-term?

Most classes are full by the start of the term in September, and for piano lessons, places are often already taken by June. You are always welcome to contact the school management to find out if there are any places left. You will then pay a fee calculated on a pro rata basis according to the number of lessons you will attend.

I don’t have an instrument – can i rent one from the music school?

The school has a few instruments available for hire (violin, guitar, cello, saxophone, clarinet, tenor recorder). Please get in touch with us (Kristina or Ariane) to find out about the terms and availability. For the djembe class, an instrument is provided during the lesson. For other instruments, we will put you in touch with the teacher, who will be happy to advise you.
